In partnership with Comprehensive Counseling Solutions, Inc. (CCS), Life Skills University (LSU) helps children, teens, and adults build upon their strengths to overcome life's most difficult challenges by providing a continuum of behavioral health and educational classes.
We often encounter children, teens, and adults that have been abused, neglected, and/or emotionally hurt by people they have trusted. As a result, many of these children and young adults often demonstrate very defiant and oppositional behaviors, exhibit low self-esteem, have poor academic performance, engage in high-risk behaviors such as using drugs and having unprotected sex, and often have a very difficult time understanding how today’s decisions result in tomorrows consequences. With these children and young adults facing so many issues, it can be very challenging for parents, teachers, and other care-givers to reach them.
However, at LSU, we understand that many of our clients have often grown up in dysfunctional households and have often been emotionally and physically abused.
The fact is, many of our clients' behaviors have been shaped by many years of dysfunctional thinking and behaviors—and, although it is not said very often, they have every right to be angry at the world.
Therefore, when working with our clients, we set the proper expectations with not only the individual, but also the immediate and extended family members that are involved.
We strive to provide an understanding that “change” is something that happens over time and not overnight; unfortunately, it is more often expected to be an immediate “event.”
